Stress Awareness Month – Reducing Workplace Stress

April is Stress Awareness Month, so it is the perfect time to reflect on our everyday lives and learn more about how to cope with stress and warning signs. A lot of stress can begin in the workplace and employees can become overwhelmed, ultimately creating negative impacts for themselves and other workers in the same environment. So, what are some of the signs we can look for to help indicate job stress?

Warnings of stress at work include:

  • Headache
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Upset stomach
  • Trouble staying focused or concentrating on tasks
  • Increased irritability and anger

If you do realize stress is affecting you at work, there are some quick and easy ways to curb that stress, including:

  • Read through your job description to refresh yourself on what exactly is expected of you
  • If constantly running late is adding to your stress, consider setting your clocks ahead 5-10 minutes to give yourself some extra time
  • Keep a healthy diet, get exercise, and sleep well to ease physical stress
  • Engage in a hobby you enjoy or learn something new to ease mental stress
  • Squeeze some humor into your day with co-workers to help relieve office stress
